Biographical sketch of A.A. Agranovsky



Alexey Anatolievitch Agranovsky, educated from the high school in 1970.

Professional experience:

In 1970-1975 graduated as a diploma in plant biochemistry from the Department of Plant Biochemistry, Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University.

1975-1977, Researcher Probationer, Department of Virology, Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University. 1977-1983, Senior Laboratory Assistant, the same Department. In 1981, received the Ph.D. (Candidate of Biological Sciences) at the Department of Virology of the same Faculty, for the Thesis on "The study on peculiarities of terminal structures in barley stripe mosaic virus RNA". 1983-1984, Junior Research Officer, the same Department.

1984-1987, Senior Research Officer, Head of the Virology Department of the Scientific Phytopathological Laboratory (USSR Ministry of Agriculture) in Ethiopia; also Editor-in-Chief of the "Ethiopian Phytopathological Committee (EPC) Newsletter" (1985-1986), and a guest lecturer on plant virology at the Addis Ababa University.

1987-1989, Research Officer, Department of Plant Virus Biochemistry, A.N.Belozersky Laboratory, Moscow State University. 1989-1991, Senior Research Officer at the same Department.

1991-1993, visiting scientist on leave from Moscow State University at the Federal Biological Research Center for Agriculture and Forestry (Biologische Bundesanstaly fuer Land- und Forstwirtschaft) at Braunschweig, Germany (research fellowship fom the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation).

From September, 1993, returns to work in Russia as a Senior Research Officer at the Department of Plant Virus Biochemistry, A.N.Belozersky Institute at Moscow State University.

1996 until present, Head of the Virus Molecular Biology Sector, Department of Virology, Moscow University.

Doctor of Sciences (1994), Professor of Moscow University (2004), Laureate of the Leninski Komsomol Prize in Science and Technology (1981).

Personal status: Born June 23, 1953, in Moscow. Married, has one child.
